Oven-Baked Crispy Tofu
Prep Time: 10m | Cook Time: 40m | Servings: 3-4
Ingredients
- 900g pack of regular tofu*
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (use gluten-free or tamari if needed)
- 1/2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
- 4 tbsp cornstarch
- Medium, firm, extra-firm tofu all work for this recipe. Avoid silken tofu.
Instructions
Preparation: The day before, open your packet of tofu, drain it, and freeze it in a container.
In the morning, remove the tofu from the freezer and allow it to thaw completely.
Preheat the oven to 190ºC.
Cut the tofu into smaller chunks (about 4x3x2cm squares, then halved).
Gently squeeze out any excess water from the tofu and place it in a container in a single layer.
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic powder.
Pour the marinade evenly over the tofu and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and coat each piece evenly.
Place the tofu on a lined baking tray in a single layer, ensuring pieces don’t touch.
Bake for 30 minutes, then flip all pieces and bake for another 5-10 minutes until golden.
Enjoy this crispy, golden tofu on its own, or serve with your favorite side dishes or in a salad!
